  • Blowing bubbles

Young children love blowing bubbles. There are, of course, commercially available bubble mixtures which can be purchased anywhere which sells toys. But bubble solution is also very easy to make at home. Below is a recipe for making bubble solution and instructions for making a wand to blow giant bubbles.
    Recipe for simple bubble solution

    1 Cup of water
3-4 Tablespoons of washing up liquid (dishwashing liquid detergent)
    2 Tablespoons glycerin (optional)
    2 Drops of food colouring.

The bubble solution works very well without the glycerin but adding some to the mixture will produce stronger, longer lasting bubbles.
The food colouring is also optional. Children will love the coloured bubbles but bear in mind that it may slightly stain surfaces and is probably best suited for blowing bubbles outdoors.

The following instructions can be used for making a bubble wand.
    You will need:

Yoghurt pot or coleslaw lid, or plastic lid of equivelent size
    Straw
    Scissors
    Sellotape
    Plastic tray

  • Cut the centre out of the plastic lid to leave a ring. Younger children may require assistance with this.

  • Use the sellotape to attach the straw to the plastic ring you have just created. Use plenty of tape to ensure it is fixed securely.

  • Fill the tray with the bubble solution (see recipe at the top of the page). Dip the wand in the solution and use it to blow big bubbles!
