  • Bow and Arrow

Using the instructions below you can make your own toy bow and arrow. This craft project is perfect for dressing up games, for example your child could pretend to be a Red Indian, Robin Hood, Medieval Soldier, etc. You will need:

    A long twig/stem of tree
    A length of string
    A small twig
    Paper
    Plasticine

  • First of all you will need a long stem of tree. It needs to be thin enough so that you can bend it a little, but not so thin that it breaks. The bow will look best if you shave the bark off, but this is not essential. Using a craft knife, cut a slit in each end of the twig - this will help hold the string in place.

  • Bend the twig a little to form a slight arc, the tie the string between each end. Pass the string through the two slits you cut to secure it. The string should be taut.

  • To make the arrow, put a small ball of plasticine over the end of a twig. This will prevent it from causing any pain or injury, should it hit anyone.

  • Cut a rectangle from a piece of paper - approximately 2 inch by 2.5 inchs. Leaving a margin of 0.75cm on the left, cut slits into the right hand side (see image below).

  • Wrap the paper around the end of the twig (the opposite end to which you attached the plasticine) and secure it with sellotape. Fan out the paper a little.

  • The bow and arrow is complete.
