  • Door hanger

If you want to print out a template for the door hanger visit this page.

The door hanger can be decorated however you like by your child using, pens, paint, pencil, glitter, etc. Below are instructions for making a fun fishy door hanger. I recommend using funky foam for this craft project, as it will make the door hanger bright and colourful and it has a wonderful 3D quality, but card would work just as well. You will also need some scissors, glue, and some googley eyes.

  • Draw around the template and cut out the door hanger from some stiff card.

  • Draw around the template again onto a sheet of dark blue funky foam (or alternatively, card) and onto some light blue funky foam. Use this as a guide for cutting out waves to stick onto your doorhanger (see the image below). You could also paint the waves.

  • Draw three fish shapes onto some green funky foam and cut them out. Cut three fins from yellow funky foam and glue all the pieces onto the doorhanger. Add googley eyes.

  • Add any other details you like such as bubbles or seaweed.

  • Write the child's name on the door hanger. There are several methods you could use for this. Sticky letters in a variety of sizes and designs (often used for card making and scrap booking) can be bought from many craft shops. You could paint on the letters, use glitter glue or spell out the name using letters cut from a magazine or newspaper. Or maybe just print them off the computer (which looks particularly good if you print onto photo card and then mount it before attaching it to the door hanger).

  • The door hanger is complete and ready for putting on your child's door!
