Finger painted christmas cards
It may only be September but I've already had a request for some ideas for finger painting Christmas cards. Below are three designs to inspire your child and get them started. I have kept the designs very simple so that even very young children can help with making handmade Christmas cards for friends and family.
For the Christmas tree you will need some green paint and some brown paint (if your children are young it is best to get non toxic paint which can be bought at both toy and craft shops). Form the tree out of
rows of green finger prints and one brown finger print for the trunk. In the example above, the baubles are formed from blobs of glitter glue and the star from a gold sticker. Alternatively, your child could glue on
sequins or star stickers for the decorations, and use glitter glue to draw tinsel.
The Christmas angel is very simple for young children. Cut a triangle from some pretty paper and glue it to the card. If you don't have any craft paper then scraps of wrapping paper work just as well. Use pink paint and
make a finger print just above the triangle to form the head. Make two finger prints either side of the triangle (in the colour of your choice) to form the wings. In the example above, a halo and two little feet have been drawn on with silver
pen, and a little silver glitter glue put over the wings.
The litte robin is a very simple but effective picture. Make one red finger print and once that has dried a little make a brown thumb print slightly overlapping it. Draw on a little beak and some legs. You could also draw on the
eyes or use a googly eye. The one in the picture above has an eye made from a circle punched with a whole punch with a pupil drawn on.

If your child is making these cards to give away then try printing the pictures on white card or paper and then cutting them out and gluing them onto the blank card. Mounting the pictures and gluing on embellishments (such as snowflakes cut from a decorative card punch)
will make the project even more enjoyable for your child and make the cards look extra special. You could also check out shops or websites for stamps such as festive greetings or Christmassy shapes.
If your child is looking for further inspiration for finger painting Christmas cards, think about ideas such as snowmen and Father Christmas. The snowmen could be made with prints in white paint done against a black background, with the features drawn on in pen. Rather than
just making Father Christmas from finger prints, you could draw a simple Santa and your child could make his beard with white finger prints.
