  • Gingerbread men

    6oz Self raising flour
    2oz Butter
    2oz Sugar
    1 Teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1 1/2 Tablespoons of golden syrup
    2 Teaspoons of ground ginger
Chocolate chips, raisins, smarties, etc, to decorate

    (1) Melt the butter, sugar and golden syrup together in a pan, over a low heat.
    (2) Mix the flour, ground ginger and bicarbonate of soda together in a bowl.
    (3) Pour the melted ingredients into the bowl and mix it all together to make a stiff dough.
    (4) Sprinkle a little flour over the work surface to prevent sticking. Roll the dough out so it is about 1cm thick.
    (5) Use a cutter to make the gingerbread men shapes. If the dough keeps sticking to the cutter, dip it in flour before use.
    (6) Cover a baking tray with a sheet of grease proof paper. Use a palette knife to lift the gingerbread men onto the baking try.
    (7) Decorate the gingerbread men with the chocolate chips, smarties or raisins (which ever you prefer) and bake them in the oven for 8-10 minutes at 190C.
